GROW YOUR BUSINESS
with a modern, mobile-responsive website
that drives more online business
Today WordPress powers one of every 6 websites on the Internet, more than 50% of the top 1 million websites online that run a content management system (CMS) and 24.5% of the entire Internet. It is by far the most popular content management system in use today with more than 60 million active websites. It’s major benefits for businesses are the use of themes that allow the entire look and feel of the site to be updated without losing your content and the 37,000+ third party plug-ins that provide additional functionality from deeper security through to shops and online payments.
Visual Composer makes it extremely simple for a company’s in-house staff to update and maintain the content of your website. It’s the best selling plugin at CodeCanyon, passing the 20,000 sales milestone in March 2014.
I have several companies using this tool to manage their content and I rarely get cries for help. It’s simple, logical and quick. Ideal when updating the website is not your primary function in the business.
Shopify currently powers the online shops of over 175,000 businesses in approximately 150 countries, including: Tesla Motors, Budweiser, Wikipedia, LA Lakers, the New York Stock Exchange, GoldieBlox, and many more. Having launched a number of online shops on this platform, we cannot recommend it enough.
For payments we recommend Stripe. Notable online companies that use Stripe as their default payment processor include Twitter (who will be soon enabling users to ‘buy’ from a tweet), Kickstarter (who dropped Amazon Payments for Stripe), reddit, Wired, Salesforce.com, Squarespace, and The Guardian. With Stripe, we can integrate payment processing into your website without you having to register and maintain a merchant account. Best of all, they handle ALL the security requirements on their servers, meaning you don’t need to go down the dreaded rabbit hole of PCI compliance. Stripe, in line with its competitors, charges a fee of 2.9% + $0.30 per successful credit card charge. Unlike most of its competitors, however, Stripe does not charge setup fees, monthly fees, validation fees, card storage fees, or failed payment fees. Furthermore, there is no minimum monthly payments volume required to use Stripe.
When a website is responsive, the layout and content automatically adapts, or responds based on the size or orientation of the screen they are presented on. With the rise of smartphones and especially tablets, as a website company we are seeing between 40-60% of visitors using these devices to view our customers’ sites. Similarly with the rise of internet-connected smartTV’s and devices such as Google’s Chromecast, websites are being viewed on much larger screens also. Change the size of your browser window now to see how the content of this page adapts to the window size.
Google Analytics is a service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics and reports about the visitors to your website. It’s the most widely used website statistics service. For example, it helps you analyse visitor traffic and paint a complete picture of your visitors and their activity on your website. It also tracks the routes people take to reach you and the devices they use to get there with reporting tools like Traffic Sources, while Real-Time Views let you know which new content is popular, how much traffic today’s new promotion is driving to your site, and which tweets and social media posts draw the best results.
Don’t worry if it all sounds too technical and time-consuming – one of the services we provide is a quick one hour meeting to translate the figures into plain english and offer advice weekly, monthly or whichever frequency suits the pace of your business.
With almost 20 years experience in digital marketing and website development we provide digital marketing services for many start-ups and small businesses across South Devon, particularly across the Torbay, South Hams, Teignbridge and Dartmoor areas.
I most enjoy helping small businesses take advantage of internet technologies to give their business a competitive edge.
